Countess of Chester Micro Data Centre Project

29th, January 2013

Workspace Technology Successfully Completes Countess of Chester Hospital Micro Data Centre in 2012.

Workspace Technology successfully completed the data centre for the Countess of Chester Hospital in Q4 of 2012.

The Countess of Chester Hospital is no different to many NHS organisations and had an aging legacy data centre facility which was no longer able to support the on-going ICT requirements of the hospital.

Workspace Technology built the new hospital data centre as part of an ICT investment programme.

The “white space” was created within an existing room with ModuSec high performance modular walling system. Workspace Technology is one of the leading suppliers of this UK manufactured product within the data centre space.

The “micro” data centre was configured with 14 x APC Netshelter vendor neutral equipment racks.

Due to the limited ceiling height a cold aisle containment configuration was installed based on Workspace Technology’s industry leading “FlexAisle®” multivendor aisle containment system.

The aisle containment was deployed with dual sliding door arrangement with fingertip light touch opening for each easy cold aisle access.
The data centre will support up to a 60kW critical load complete with N+1 cooling resilience. Dual 64kW UPS systems are deployed in a 2N configuration. All power was supported via the site power generator plant.

Workspace Technology installed GEA Denco’s Toscana range of cooling technology combined with Ambicool free air cooling condensers to help maximise the energy efficiency of the data centre for the Trust.

The completed installation included raised access flooring, electrical design & installation, lighting. I.T infrastructure and fire suppression systems.

As with all projects that Workspace Technology undertakes the design was based on its industry leading EU Code of Conduct aligned EcoDesign™ strategy.

Roy Griffiths Technical Director commented “Workspace Technology once again proved its expertise demonstrating exceptional innovation by overcoming a number of engineering challenges and was selected to undertake the data centre design and build project on behalf of the Trust. The end result delivers an exceptional facility for the Countess of Chester Hospital and we look forward to working with them on future projects”.
