As part of the Priory Road data centre renovation project Humberside Police were looking for a high efficiency cooling system. The data centre location was a long and narrow room with limited ceiling height which made it difficult to deploy conventional cooling technology.
By thinking “outside of the box” Workspace Technology’s data centre design team combined its Freecool® Evaporative Free Air Cooling and its Flexaisle® vendor independent aisle containment system to deliver highly efficient data centre cooling.
The long and narrow space made it ideal to deploy a total of 20 equipment racks configured in a single aisle. The equipment racks were combined with Workspace Technology’s Flexaisle® aisle containment system to create a fully segregated hot and cold aisle configuration.
5 x Freecool® Evaporative Free Air Cooling units were deployed delivering a total of 120kW N+1 cooling capacity. Workspace Technology worked within the constraints of the existing space cleverly creating a mixing chamber within a room separating the data centre from the external space. This mixing chamber allows atemperation or controlled air mixing of hot exhaust and cold intake airflow to help deliver a constant equipment inlet temperature.
The use of Ziehl Abegg ECBlue energy efficient EC fans helped further improve the overall energy efficiency of the design.
It is anticipated that the operational PUE at full design load will be < 1.1.
