Each year International Polar Bear Day draws attention to the challenges Polar Bears face due to climate change. The day encourages people to find ways to reduce their carbon footprint. It is also a day to learn more about polar bears and the conservation efforts being made to keep the species thriving on our planet.

1. Polar bear skin is actually black and their hair is transparent.
2. Polar bears can swim for days at a time and reach speeds of up to 6 mph.
3. On land, polar bears can reach speeds of up to 25 mph.
4. Staying clean helps polar bears keep warm, so they rub themselves in the snow to clean themselves
5. Around 60% of the world’s polar bear population live in Canada, it is estimated that there are around 25,000 polar bears left in the wild.
There is still time to save polar bears and the icy landscape they call home. However, the undenying fact is that drastic change is needed if we are going to halt the impact of climate change, not only for ourselves but also for the animals who also call this planet home. Change isn’t going to happen overnight, but it won’t happen at all without a united worldwide effort.

Community efforts: Become involved with community efforts to reduce your carbon footprint locally and involve friends, colleagues and family members encouraging them to do the same. There are community action toolkits available online, which provide ideas for making an impact locally.
