We’re Supporting The Buddy Bag Foundation

4th, February 2019

Workspace Technology may not be the largest corporate in the UK, but their 26-employee strong workforce are passionate about raising much needed funds for a local charity each year. Chosen via a staff vote, 2019 will see the Buddy Bag Foundation be the recipient of their hard work knowing that every penny raised through the various planned fundraising activities will go into supplying Buddy Bags.

Following a visit to Australia in 2014 Karen Williams saw first-hand the positive effect the Alannah and Madeline Foundation had on helping children in emergency care. On her return Karen set up The Live, Love, Laugh Foundation and launched the Buddy Bag appeal in the UK in response to the rising number of children who enter emergency care after fleeing violent situations at home.

A shocking fact: 48,000 children require emergency accommodation in the UK each year. These children often must leave home quickly without the chance to collect basic items, often arriving in emergency accommodation with just the clothes they are wearing.

The Buddy Bag Foundation provide Buddy Bags containing all the essential items a child needs. They include toiletries, pyjamas, socks and underwear. They also include comfort items such as a book, a photo frame and a teddy bear. A Buddy Bag is something a child can call their own, no matter where they go.

Workspace Technology have set a target to raise £2500 in 2019 which will provide 100 bags, bringing an element of comfort to 100 children. With every penny that is raised being ploughed into the cost of a bag, the team are passionate about beating the target and helping as many children as possible.

Dawn Smiley, Head of Marketing & Operations says “this is a fantastic charity and the fact that every penny is used for the cost of a bag has really motivated the staff to raise as much money as possible. No one can imagine what it must be like to go out to school one day and to never go back home, leaving behind your favourite toys, photos and even sometimes the family pet.

Activities throughout the year will see various employees raise much needed funds including skydives, an honesty tuck shop to raffles and quizzes. Hopefully we will see the support of our supply network dig deep as well as family and friends”.

If anyone wants to support our charity donations would be gratefully received. Activities that you can support can be found on our Charity webpage.
