8th, December 2015

Urban Splash established in 1993, are one of the UK’s most innovative and well know developers and known for their sustainable regeneration schemes breathing new life into previously disused buildings.

The company’s avant-garde approach to construction has seen them take on difficult sites and projects that other developers will not, such as the Budenberg HAUS Projekte located at Altrincham in Greater Manchester, Park Hill in Sheffield, Saxton Gardens in Leeds, New Islington and many others.

They place significant emphasis on design, employing well respected architects including Foster and Partners, ShedKM Glen Howells, Hawkins Brown and Studio Egret West.

Park Hill Sheffield

Urban Splash have given a new lease of life to Sheffield’s well-known iconic Grade II listed feature building Park Hill, the largest listed building complex in Europe. Working Closely with English Heritage, Urban Splash have recreated the original concept of ‘Streets in the Sky’ community accommodation, creating bright and modern duplex apartments.

Hardwood Flooring by Workspace Technology

Workspace Technology was selected by Urban Splash to provide the premium secondary hardwood floor coverings required throughout the development.

At the outset Workspace Technology was given a clear brief. The flooring system, must be sustainable, provide quality, longevity, warmth, and have the natural good looks that a high quality hardwood floor covering provides, as an essential component of this innovative Urban Splash scheme.

Workspace Technology’s experienced estimators ensured that the floor covering met with all the specific requirements and was suitable for the specific build environment.

It was essential that the right levels of humidity were present prior to installing the floor; Workspace Technology’s qualified surveyors undertook a detailed site analysis to ensure that the humidity levels complied with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Workspace Technology deployed Kährs single strip multi-layered hardwood flooring system. The system captures the beauty and expression of wood, capturing the good looks of sustainable native species with traditional floor technology to produce a floor that is durable, stable and easy to install.

Sustainable Solutions

In keeping with Urban Splash’s commitment to sustainable business, social and environmental practice, and to comply with Workspace Technology’s ‘Beauty with Conscience’ ethos, the materials used in the flooring systems are from renewable sources approved by the FSC and PEFC, the wood stains and finishes are the most environmental friendly products available.

Workspace Technology installed a total of 6500m2, in 110 apartments across a 14 month program. The development involved multiple trades, therefore adherence to timescales provided within the program played a crucial role in achieving critical operational and commercially driven milestones.

Workspace Technology believes in a pro-active and collaborative approach to project delivery that provides quality of service as well as reflecting demand by clients for flexibility, responsiveness and real added value. Workspace Technology’s experienced, dedicated Project Managers worked in close partnership with both main and peer sub-contractors at Urban Splash’s Park Hill Development to ensure project delivery timescales were met on time and on budget.

Workspace Technology Ltd is proud to be associated with this and other prestigious Urban Splash developments.
